The contest

The "Die schönsten Restaurants & Bars" contest was started to recognise the interior design, lighting, furniture and surfaces of bars and restaurants. In the jury's view, these are what make the atmosphere in a venue and what create a restaurant business' image, even before considering the culinary experience. The contest is sponsored by publishing house Callwey together with the German Interior Designers Association (bdia), the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (DEHOGA), INTERNORGA, a trade show for food service and hospitality, and media partners 24 Stunden Gastlichkeit, B-EAT and architecture magazine Baumeister. Architects, designers and restaurateurs in Germany, Austria and Switzerland were invited to submit their best work. The winners and awards in the Restaurant, Bar, Café & Bistro and Innovation of the Year categories in the furniture design segment were announced by the jury on 18 March at INTERNORGA in Hamburg, which included Blüchers restaurant owned by Johann Lafer.
