Brunner AG
Schönbühl | Switzerland
It’s our mission to design “furniture that makes life better”. We fulfil that mission by combining practical functionality with clear, elegant designs that are nothing short of extraordinary. This approach has been winning over the Swiss market since 1981 – the year in which the Brunner subsidiary Sedorama AG (known as Brunner AG since 2017) was established. Our values shine through at our showrooms in Winterthur, Zurich and Bussigny, Lausanne. The same can be said of our company headquarters in Schönbühl, Bern, which is a understated hybrid building that has been home to showroom, office, warehouse and workshop spaces since 2013. The minimalistic building makes the most of its highly accessible location directly on the A1 motorway, where it stands out with its stark design. Inside, the headquarters captures the versatility and flexibility Brunner promises its customers.
The Swiss architectural practice EM2N developed a five-storey building in Schönbühl that highlights Brunner’s commitment to design on the outside and provides plenty of space to celebrate versatility and show off products in their best light on the inside. The available space has been designed cleverly and efficiently to keep processes streamlined and create a positive working environment. A café and multifunctional seminar space provide the perfect setting for productive conversations and social gatherings.
The Swiss company headquarters may appear simple in its design at first glance, but a closer look reveals the clever details. The asymmetric bend along the long sides invites visitors in from the outside. The light grey colour of the exposed concrete panels behind the perforated sheet metal on the façade changes with the light and viewing angle. Windows at varying heights match the staggered floor heights dividing up the inside space. An open staircase links all the levels together, framed by an exposed steel beam structure. Natural surfaces painted in light neutrals or black set the scene, making the products in the Brunner portfolio the stars of the show.
